Jewish bakery

Explore a historic site where traditional baking practices thrived, contributing to the town's economy and showcasing unique cultural heritage.

In the aljama there were buildings with specific functions which were of great importance. The bakery, like the slaughterhouse and the butcher's, is a good example.

The requirements for preparing and baking Jewish unleavened bread dictated this.

Traditionally it was a source of income for the town, so that tax and rent were collected by the rulers.

The existence of the bakery is documented on the Carrer d’en Fortó, almost on the corner of the Carrer Major de Remolins (and also one of the main streets of the town since ancient times), though it is no longer there.
