The jewish quarter
Vilanova Street
This historic street features a straight layout and ample width, offering a charming atmosphere with its network of alleys and squares, perfect for exploration.
As its name - which means New Town - indicates, this street was situated in the “new” Jewish ghetto. It is laid out in a completely straight line, parallel to the Cèlio watercourse and crossing the Carrer Major de Remolins, which almost connects it with the surviving 14th-century wall.
It is without a doubt the main street of the new ghetto that sprang up because the old one, located further to the west, had been outgrown. Its east-west alignment and its unusual width make it better-lit than most ghettos. Around it is the network of streets, alleys and small squares that give the neighbourhood the charm and the attractiveness and simplicity that characterise it as a whole.
