Jewish butchers, like the bakery, were specially set up for the specific practices that have to be followed when slaughtering animals for human consumption.

Both Jewish and Muslim communities had to have specific, separate places for slaughtering animals. The taxes levied on the business had to be paid to the noble families of the town, specifically the Sentmenats.

The site of the Jewish butchery of Tortosa, which no longer exists, is marked with a plaque on the Carrer d’en Fortó.
