Town Hall Square
The entire area surrounding this square is the result of a major urban redevelopment carried out during the post-war period by the state agency Regiones Devastadas, with the aim of creating a new urban centre in the heart of the former Fishermen’s Quarter. This part of the city, mainly inhabited by working-class residents and characterized by small plots and multi-storey buildings, was severely affected by Francoist bombings. After the war, the previous urban fabric was completely demolished and replaced by a new arcaded square, where the new Town Hall building and the Telephone and Post Office headquarters were established.
